About Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region
Founded in 1988, Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region is a charitable organization working toward a world where everyone has an affordable place to call home. In Waterloo Region, 1 in 4 households lack access to affordable housing, highlighting the importance of coming together to create more opportunities for homeownership.
Through our affordable homeownership program, we partner with working families to help make the dream of owning a home a reality. Together, we build more than houses, we create opportunities for families to put down roots, build connections and be part of a thriving community.
Habitat Waterloo Region is a unique and multifaceted non-profit organization that brings together affordable homeownership, retail, fundraising and community advocacy. Each year, we engage hundreds of volunteers, raise close to $1 million and operate two ReStores that generate approximately $2 million in annual sales. We also hold mortgages for around 70 families, with mortgage repayments helping us acquire land and build more homes for future families.
At the heart of our work is the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to build a future in a place they can call home. Through the collective efforts of our families, donors, partners, volunteers and supporters, we’re building more than homes, we’re building community.

Are you our next board member?
The Board of Directors is a diverse group of 11-15 individuals who live and work throughout Waterloo Region and strive to make an impact in their own community. As a Governance Board, they are dedicated to the overall success of the organization – establishing and monitoring the strategic direction, policies and overall administrative, and financial affairs of the affiliate. They act as the employer of the CEO who in turn leads and empowers a staff to operationalize the organization’s strategic plan. The Board monitors the affiliate's effectiveness and service outcomes through a range of performance indicators. Diversifying the Board is a priority. The families and communities we serve are diverse in many ways. By better reflecting this diversity in the makeup of our board, we will increase our understanding of how to best serve Habitat families, and our ability to reach these families and the full range of volunteers, donors and resources we need to partner with them.
