New Cambridge Build

Habitat for Humanity Waterloo returns to Cambridge

Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region has been building affordable housing for lower income families since 1988. Today, (pictured left to right) Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region Director of Community Outreach Janine Armstrong, CEO Philip Mills, Director of Construction Bil Ioannidis, Waterloo Region Chair Karen Redman, and Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry are excited to announce the future build of a brand-new affordable housing community for families in Cambridge.

Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region, plans to redevelop the vacant site located on Shantz Hill. The plans involve roughly 20 newly constructed stacked townhouses for working families who would not otherwise get into traditional homeownership.

Lack of affordable housing is not unique to our region but we see it every day with the unpredictable rent
increases, and the lack of access to affordable financing. Many families live with constant worry in our neighbour- hoods because of these reasons. That is why Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region is excited to partner with work- ing, lower income families here in Cambridge–to give them a hand up, to build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership.

Habitat homeownership provides families with more than just equity–it instills them with a renewed sense of pride and responsibility. We bring communities together. We are thrilled to be helping families reimagine a future with home- ownership of their very own.

“As a resident of Cambridge, myself, I know how wonderful it is to raise my family here in a community that is growing but still has that small town feel. We are very excited to bring our Habitat homes to such a wonderful part of Waterloo Region.” - Philip Mills, CEO Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region

“Building affordable housing across the region is a priority for Regional Council. We are grateful for the expertise and vision of Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region for improving access to affordable home ownership” - Chair Karen Redman, Region of Waterloo

“We know affordable housing is more than putting a roof over someone’s head, it’s a safe and secure place to call home and a chance at so much more. Housing is a priority for us here in Cambridge and Waterloo Region. We are grateful for community partners like Habitat for Humanity and for this investment in our city’s future.” - Kathryn McGarry, City of Cambridge Mayor
